ROCK AND ROLL
Written by: Tom Stoppard
Directed by: Doug Buchanan
January 19 - February 1, 2009

Always on the cutting edge of provocative theatre, the Professional Theatre program is proud to present as its second Major, Tom Stoppard’s politically poignant play Rock ’n’ Roll, to be directed by Douglas Buchanan. Spanning the years between the Spring of 1968 in Prague and the Velvet Revolution of 1989, this play takes a look at the significance of rock and roll music in the emergence of the democratic movement in Eastern Bloc Czechoslovakia from the double perspective of Prague, where a rock 'n' roll band comes to symbolise resistance to the Communist regime, and of Cambridge, where the truths about love and death are shaping the lives of three generations in the family of a Marxist philosopher.
