Welcome to Social Services!

What is Social Service?
Social Service is a three-year program that prepares students for a variety of career opportunities in the field of human services or further studies in Social Work at University.

Social Service at Dawson College is a small, community-like program that emphasises the student's personal and professional development, and provides the experience of belonging to a group. We normally admit between 40 and 50 students into the first year, and these are divided into two "lab" groups that continue for the full academic year.

The Social Service department is a small, self-contained area that includes a lounge, student workspace with computers, and teachers' offices. This environment fosters friendly and informal interaction, and gives students full access to their teachers for consultation and support.

Social Service faculty consists of six to seven teachers who give all the discipline (388) courses, and thus know their students well. (General education courses allow our students to mix with the wider Dawson student body).

Our teachers possess professional training and expertise in the social work field, and have wide-ranging experience as practitioners that they bring to the classroom. Our classes emphasise active participation and hands-on practice of social service skills.
